Yejong of Joseon 1450 – 1469
Biography
Born into Joseon royalty in 1450, Yejong ascended to the throne as the dynasty’s eighth king, stepping into one of history’s most demanding roles while still a teenager. His coronation placed him at the center of a pivotal era in Korean civilization, tasked with stewarding a nation through complex political and cultural currents. Though court records are sparse on his specific achievements, Yejong’s reign represented a critical chapter in the Joseon Dynasty’s evolution—a young monarch navigating the weight of imperial responsibility.
Yejong’s time on the throne was tragically brief. He died of disease at just nineteen years old in December 1469, leaving behind a legacy as part of the royal succession that shaped medieval Korea. His body was laid to rest at Changneung with full royal honors, his burial site standing today as a testament to his place in the dynasty’s storied lineage and his enduring connection to Korean history.
