Zaha Hadid 1950 – 2016
Biography
Zaha Hadid didn’t design buildings—she reimagined what buildings could be. The Baghdad-born visionary revolutionized architecture with fluid, gravity-defying forms that seemed to defy physics itself. Her radical vision made her a trailblazer across architecture, design, and painting, bringing an audacious new language to each discipline she conquered. Working from her London base, Hadid became one of the most influential creative voices of her generation, earning her place as a pioneer reshaping how we think about space and form.
On March 31, 2016, the world lost Hadid to a heart attack in Miami. She was 65. Her legacy—bold, transformative, and utterly fearless—continues to ripple through architecture and design. The flowing, innovative forms she pioneered remain instantly recognizable, a testament to her singular vision. Hadid was laid to rest at Brookwood Cemetery in Surrey, but her true monument stands in the buildings, museums, and galleries she left behind, continuing to inspire architects and artists worldwide.
