Biography

Zdeněk Fierlinger was born on July 11, 1891, in Olomouc, a city in the heart of Moravia. His life spanned nearly nine decades of transformative history, witnessing the decline of the Austro-Hungarian Empire and the rise of the Czechoslovak nation. Throughout his career, Fierlinger dedicated himself to public service and the development of his newly independent country.

His professional life reflected deep commitment to the emerging state. Fierlinger served as a legioneer, participated in the Czechoslovak national parliament, and held the important position of Minister of Industry. These roles placed him among the architects of early Czechoslovak governance during a formative period in Central European history.

Fierlinger spent his final years in Prague before his death on May 2, 1976, at the age of eighty-four. His remains were laid to rest at the grave of Evžen Rosický in Neředín, a burial place that honored both men’s contributions to their nation. Though details of his later years remain sparse, his legacy rests in the institutional work he undertook during Czechoslovakia’s crucial early decades.
